Our recent experience covers a number of socio-economic assessments of infrastructure, port development, and other mixed-use development projects; and clean energy projects including onshore and offshore wind, marine tidal and wave energy, biomass / renewable heat, and hydro including those in Scotland, elsewhere in the UK, and also projects internationally.

The Economic Impact Assessment of Forth Ports Scottish East Coast Ports

Client: Forth Ports – Detailed economic assessment of the economic impact and contribution of the Scottish Ports to the Scottish economy in terms of employment, GVA, freight value of export and imported goods, and wider project enablement and support.  In total the ports are estimated employ and support approximately 13,051 FTE jobs and £2.37 billion of economic value.

The Regional Economic Impact of Heriot Watt University

Client: Heriot Watt University – Assessment of the contribution that the University makes towards regional economic growth. In 2015-2016 it is estimate that the University overall supported 10,250 full time equivalent jobs across its campuses and through the wider related economies in Scotland, the UK. Dubai, and Malaysia, and generated a total economic impact of approximately £988 million.

Scottish Energy Ports – Offshore Decommissioning Scenario Planning Project Client: with Ramboll (UK) for Scottish Enterprise, HIE, and Decom North Sea – Baseline assessment, operator consultation, analysis, and scenario mapping providing a detailed assessment of the requirements and development programme of the offshore decom industry and the identification of onshore facilities required to ensure that Scotland secures an appropriate share of offshore decommissioning contracts to 2040.

EuroPark Residential-Led Development Socio-Economic Impact Assessment

Client: with CBRE for a Private Developer – Socio-economic impact assessment and topic chapter of the Environmental Statement of a fully master-planned residential led mixed use scheme comprising 2,600 dwellings, together with extensive commercial, and healthcare related floor-space, and local community, retail, education, and support facilities, in North Lanarkshire on the eastern edge of Glasgow City.

North Wales 400kV Grid Connection – Socio-economic Assessment

Client: with Jacobs for National Grid – Provision of socio-economic advice and peer review of the Socio-Economic Assessment Environmental Statement chapter for the new North Wales 400kV transmission grid connection Strategic Infrastructure Project, running from the proposed 2.7GW Horizon nuclear station at Wylfa Newydd on Anglesey to Pentir in Gwynedd, North Wales.

International: Special Economic Zone, Tehran and Logistic City, Qatar

Internationally we have advised on the economic rationale, potential development mix, and opportunities for foreign direct investment in a major Special Economic Zone in the Persian Gulf for a private sector client; and the master-planning of a strategic logistics ‘dry port’ to improve the business infrastructure of Qatar in advance of the 2022 Football World Cup, with CH2M Hill for the Qatar 2022 Supreme Committee.
